Turf King Kingston - About Us

Areas Served:

We service Kingston, Napanee, all of Frontenac County, and Lennox & Addington County.

Owner: Mathieu Turcotte graduated from Sir Sanford Fleming College, Lindsay, ON in Forestry 1976. He started work for the Ministry of Natural Resources, Algonquin Park in the Timber Management division. From there he moved to Elliot Lake, Ontario to work as a research technician for Energy Mines and Resources Canada studying the impact the Uranium mining industry had on the surrounding environment. He returned home to Kingston in 1983 and worked for M.O.E. in the water quality lab before starting employment as a quality control/lab technician for a chemical manufacturing plant in Gananoque. In 1995 he started up the Turf King franchise in the Kingston area. With the support of the Turf King franchise system our business and customer base has steadily grown each year. We anticipate it continuing to grow as we keep up to date with changes we are seeing and as new products and methods come along. As a franchise we are constantly researching new products and methods, and keeping in touch with Research Facilities and Industry Contacts. We are also a member of several Community and Industry organizations.

What sets us apart:

We take extra time to carefully assess each and every property to make sure what we are recommending is the best and most cost effective for that property and you the customer.
Turf King has always been concerned about the environment and the best way to enhance your lawn/properties while maintaining a friendly relationship with nature. Over the past few years, along with the advances from the different Universities and governments (Ontario Ministry of Agriculture and Agriculture Canada), Turf King has been using other innovations that have made our controls safer and more effective while steadily reducing pesticide use.

Trained Technicians. Our lawn care staff are "Licensed Technicians" or "Licensed Exterminators", licensed by the Ministry of the Environment (M.O.E.) and continually attend seminars offered by Turf King, industry associations, and various universities to keep abreast of the latest advances in lawn care as well as environmental issues and organic alternatives.

I.P.M. means (Integrated Pest Management). That means that controls are applied as they are required, and we integrate other methods (observation, overseeding, topdressing, education and advice to our partners - you) with our standard controls.

Surfactant is a fancy word for soap. By adding a little bit of soap to our herbicides, they cover the target area and stick to the leaf better, resulting in our being able to use up to 10% percent less chemical. We prefer Sunlight or Ivory!

K.I.S.S. By adding Kelp to our mixtures, everything works better. Kelp is a biological activator with all kinds of valuable nutrients. Biological activator means that the processes in nature are able to start working better and more efficiently. The plants are more sun and insect resistant and produce more seeds and roots. The plant is far more effective at utilizing fertilizer as well as the controls we apply. A side benefit is that it can further reduce the use of controls!

Organics. Our Turf King fertilizers are organically based. We use a very high organic ratio in our fertilizer. This adds to the quality of the soil, gives us an excellent source of nutrients and a nice slow release pattern. Our lawn managment practices, included with our specially blended and balanced fertilizer, is far more effective in reducing the need for chemicals which only mask the problem. We also offer totally organic programs for those customers who would like to try it. Sometimes it is advisable and we may suggest that we go with one of our more conventional approaches to get the lawn in shape and then slowly switch to our Totally Organic programs or pesticide free.
